He served as Bishop of Providence from 1948 until his death in 1971. ==Early life and education== Russell McVinney was born in Warren, Rhode Island, to Thomas and Catherine (née Blessington) McVinney. He was baptized at (St. Mary's of the Bay Church ) in Warren the following month.
